About The Trees

It's more than just a peach....

Lemon Elberta

This is our most popular peach. Known for its sweet flavor and large size, these peaches are great for eating fresh, canning, or freezing.  They are a favorite because of the ease of peeling, but tend to bruise easily and ripen quickly.  This means these types of peaches have to be bought locally and cannot be shipped.  They produce beautiful pink flowers in the spring and have a soft yellow coloring as they ripen around the beginning of September.

Cresthaven

These peaches are juicy and large, like Lemon Elbertas, but have less peach fuzz.  These peaches are known for their versatility and firmness and can be used for just about anything you use a peach for.  The flavor is sweet, just like the peaches you typically find in the store.  They are a darker red color, with some yellow and orange worked in.  Great for canning peach slices, syrups, and jams.  Crest Havens are usually available mid-to-late August and sometimes into September.

J.H. Hale

These peaches are known for their large size, firmness, and beauty. They are orange-yellow in color with a perfect pink blush and some of the most uniformly shaped peaches in our orchard.  If you want pretty peaches, these are the ones.  Hales have a gorgeous red color around the pit, making them beautiful in canning jars, and are almost as easy to peel as the lemon elberta, but our family loves snacking on them right off the tree.  J.H. Hales were developed especially to withstand colder weather making them perfect to grow in Utah. These peaches come off the trees around mid-to-late-August.

Red Haven

Red Havens are known for their flavor.  These are the golden-standard in sweet, juicy peaches.  Though they are a medium-size peach, they are early to ripen and have a firm flesh. These super-sweet peaches are great for baking, canning, or eating fresh. Red Havens are one of the most widely grown varieties of peaches around the country and are usually the first to come off the trees, around Pioneer Day.  They have a beautiful dark red color and are one of our family’s favorites.

Angelas

Angelas peaches have a more mild, creamy peach flavor and are usually only available if you purchase them straight from the orchard, as they don’t ship well.  Well liked for canning, they skin easily.  They are prefect for jams and sauces as well as baking yummy pies and cobblers.  They are the one of last peaches to come off trees in our orchard, usually around Labor Day.  They are some of the largest peaches we get from our orchard.

White Peach

The white peach is a unique category of peaches.  While there are several varieties (we think we have a White Lady, but aren’t sure), these peaches share a common trait: instead of a yellow flesh, it is white.  White peaches tend to be more firm and have a floral taste to them.  Ours almost taste like a peach-pear mix.  These peaches are great for snacking, canning, or freezing but, because they are so sweet, many people add them to their cooking.  We only have one of these trees so quantities are limited.

O' Henry Peach

The newest addition to our orchard is the O’ Henry peach.  We added these late-ripening peaches in 2022 to replace some of the older tress.  These peaches are large, firm, and freestone.  They have a yellow flesh, but a hint of a vanilla flavor along with the peach taste.  O’ Henry’s are our last peaches of the season, usually ripe in mid-September.  As these are young trees, our supply is limited.

Apples

Red Delicious

These apples are sold around the nation and are known as the snacking apple. They are bright red and crunchy, making them great for use in salads.

Golden Delicious

More mellow than other apples, the Golden Delicious is soft, yellow-green skin.  It is great for slicing because its flesh stays white longer than other varieties.  It’s sweet flavor makes it a great all-purpose apple.

Roman Beauty

These gorgeous apples are great for baking and cooking as they have a bright red skin and hold their shape while being heated.  They can also be preserved through freezing or canning.

Granny Smith

Green, crunchy, and tart, these apples are fun to each fresh, especially with some caramel dip, or bake into pies. They are also perfect in sauces, salads, and for freezing.

Gala

These apples are a favorite of the kids. Known for their sweet smell and taste, these apples can be used for just about anything.

And all the other trees and plants.... Ulmer Farms also grows a variety of cherry trees, Italian Prunes (a type of plum), nectarines, and apricots. In addition to trees, we have a large garden that produces a variety of vegetables that changes every year. See our Prices page (link at the top of the page) to see what is available this year.
